On Friday November 4th, Year 5 children paid a visit to Zorbaz Greek Restaurant in Coventry. The whole day was a fantastic experience, with everyone gaining a real taste of Greek life.
Upon our arrival at the restaurant we were met by our host, the fantastic Sammi, whose family run the restaurant and given a warm welcome. She was extremely impressed when the children wished her ‘Good Morning’ in Greek (‘Kalispera’).
The children were taught about the Greek alphabet and the …benefits of a mediterranean diet. Several children were chosen to be waiters and delivered vegetable slices, pitta bread, olives, tzatziki, taramasalata, houmus and last but not least, Greek meatballs in tomato sauce to the rest of the year group. This proved to be an amazing dining experience, with the children having the opportunity to sample lots of healthy traditional Greek food, sitting together in a typically celebratory fashion.
The day finished with Sammi teaching the children a traditional Greek dance. The music from the film, Zorba the Greek, with its steadily increasing pace was perfect for showing off the newly-learned dance skills. The dance was great fun and was a perfect celebration of the day.
Thank you to everyone at Zorbaz Greek Restaurant for a memorable day.
