At the end of last half term, Year 5 came to the end of our learning about Sir Ernest Shackleton. We put ourselves into the minds of a journalist and thought about what would have happened when the explorers returned from Antarctica and wrote some fantastic newspaper reports! You can see these on display in the Year 5 corridor as well as the writing gallery.
Now that the new half term has begun, we have started to move above and beyond this Earth with exploration and will be looking at Space! To blast off, we visited the National Space Centre in Leicester. We learnt what it really means to be an astronaut, the effects this could have on our bodies and saw a huge rocket! Some of us even had the incredible opportunity to travel to Europa (one of Jupiter’s moons) on a spaceship simulator. We will learn all about Earth, the Moon and our solar system throughout this half term.
Also, we are starting to read War Horse by Michael Morpurgo. We have begun to think about the different characters and explored their relationships through drama. In the next couple of weeks, we will debate whether Albert’s family should have sold Joey the horse and write our own balanced arguments. We shall keep you updated with our thoughts!
