Welcome from our Head

Suzanne Edwards

Welcome to the website for Race Leys Junior School, one of the first schools to join the Griffin Schools Trust. Race Leys is a vibrant and exciting community where pupils are given wonderful opportunities to learn, develop and shine. Our commitment to providing children with a rich and engaging educational experience has shaped our curriculum and, in addition to literacy and maths, includes teaching in art, music, computing, modern foreign languages, Philosophy for Children (P4C) and P.E. This provision ensures that our children develop a love of learning and become well-rounded individuals with a very wide range of skills. This aspiration and ambition underpins everything and our values-based ethos gives our children a strong sense of purpose. Children’s learning is enhanced by a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including projects undertaken in partnership with the Shakespeare Trust based in Stratford-upon-Avon, local area study and cross-school projects with our partner schools Park Lane Primary and Nicholas Chamberlaine secondary.

We are also proud of the range of extra-curricular provision in our school. Every child is encouraged to participate in a club. The school provides both breakfast and after-school clubs and in addition to this pupils can try their hand at archery, basketball, boxing, the reading club, choir as well as Chinese to name but a few! This term we are launching our new Environment Club – “Gardening Angels” – in preparation for our Griffin Trust cross school theme for 2018/19: “This Green and Pleasant Land”, in which we will be focusing on the environment with all its joys and attendant challenges.  Our school takes part in a range of competitive sports at a local and national level and we are proud of our pupils’ regular successes in this area.

During their time at Race Leys, all pupils have opportunities to participate in a range of visits and trips including a residential outdoor education programme as well as to theatres, the Space Museum in Leicester and museums. This is complemented through our 101 Experiences, an initiative we are very proud of at Race Leys, ensuring that our offer to children provides a range of opportunities and challenges that equip our pupils well for the next stage in their education.

As proud members of the Griffin Schools Trust, a family of schools and a supportive network of educational expertise, we work very closely not only with other schools locally but also our partner schools within the Trust in London, Medway and the West Midlands. This includes a range of exciting activities as part of the annual Griffin Arts Festival, a well established and a beacon of excellence for the arts, the Science Symposium and Sports Festival. Our school is a bright and well-resourced learning environment and, led by the School Council, pupils take pride in shaping and developing our community.
